The quest of human existence does not resolve to the complete avoidance of all suffering, nor in obtaining extraordinary understanding of its causes and effects. The quest of human existence consists in ascribing meaning to our suffering. God-Who-became-man in the Virgin's womb carried our griefs and bore our wounds in His own body on the cross. It is in accepting His compassionate invitation to unite our sufferings with His own that we find meaning in our agonies, our torments, our sadness, and our bitter loneliness. Teach us Lord to suffer with faith in your Redemption, and to unite our sufferings to Your own.
